Frequently asked questions
Is it free for homeowners?
Yes. Browsing the directory, comparing builders and sending a project brief cost homeowners nothing. Builders can pay for featured listings and lead credits; paid placements are always labelled.
Where do the builders come from?
They are Auckland building and renovation businesses found through web search, top5.nz and franchise location pages. Each one has a working public website that we read on the date shown on its page. They have not paid us and have not claimed their listing unless the page says so.
What does 'Unclaimed listing' mean?
We built the listing from the business's own public website and public registers. The builder has not yet confirmed or edited it. Claiming lets them correct facts, add photos, confirm availability and answer our 'Our ideal project' questions.
What does 'website says' mean?
A fact we read on the builder's own website, such as 'since 2009' or 'Registered Master Builders'. We have not verified it. Where we could compare it with a register, the register data is shown separately.
Where does the company information come from?
Company number, incorporation date, status, directors and shareholders come from public company-register data. We found it through public company-data indexes, not the Companies Office website itself, so please confirm anything important at the Companies Office. Each entry shows its source and the date we checked. Not every builder has been looked up yet; those pages say 'Not checked yet'.
Are ratings shown?
Only where we found one on a named public page, shown with that source, count and date. We do not invent ratings, and we do not copy review text.
Do you check licences?
We show licence claims that a builder makes on its own website as 'website says'. The Licensed Building Practitioner register is a public MBIE service; each builder page links to it so you can check a name yourself. We have not independently confirmed individual licences.
Can I get quotes through this site?
Not yet. The project brief form builds a written brief you can copy and send to builders yourself. Sending briefs through the site is not connected yet.
Do you flag bad builders?
We do not publish opinions. A company-status note (such as 'In liquidation' or 'Removed') appears only when the public register shows it, stated factually with the date.
Do I need building consent?
It depends on the work and the property. See our consent guide and Auckland Council's pages. This site gives general information only.
How are builders ordered?
Alphabetically by default. Featured listings are labelled Sponsored and shown separately from the main list. Payment never changes how a builder is described.
How do I correct or remove a listing?
Builders can claim a listing to correct it. A request-for-removal channel is not connected yet; until it is, we have only used public information.
